Where does it go from here -getting music heard

Postby Dave » Thu Oct 15, 2009 12:40 pm

Lots of social sites like myspace, facebook, twitter etc. The market has changed
dramatically and record companies are still scrambling to catch up. Large
studios have splintered into engineers doing things in their garage or home
studios now and so many making quality recordings on their own. Where does it go
from here? More inde videos on youtube? It's an interesting time we live in but
a very challenging one for the writer as well as performer trying to get their
music heard. The basic methods of before of grabbing your guitar and heading to
Nashville, New York or LA seem out the window. Major artists are having a tough
time selling now with all the avenues. You have CD's but many are doing
downloads on itunes etc. File sharing issues and more are tossed into the mix.

What are your thoughts on all of this, where we are and where the industry goes?

It may be getting harder with more and more competition and more quality songs comming out everyday. But it is also at the same time getting easier to share your music. Which is what a true artist wants to do no matter if they "sell" their music or not. Its all about sharing your ideas

totally agree with ryan,
there are a lot more of people who 'make' it and 'flop'

However, it is now really able to be sitting in your room singing/playing a song you've written and offered a label like that,
just check Justin Bieber for a frame of reference, no matter how much of a 'sell-out' you think he may be now, he wasn't supported by money or a corporate label, he just uploaded videos on youtube and the public did the rest.
