NEW MEMBERS: READ THIS FIRST
NEW MEMBERS!!!!
Please introduce yourself in the “Welcome and Introductions Here” section. Let us get to know you a bit! In this forum, it is considered common courtesy to tell us a bit about yourself before asking us to critique your songs. We're a friendly group, and it is helpful when we critique if we know who we are talking to, your style, etc.
We ask that you Wait One Week before posting a Song For Critique - but other posts are strongly encouraged! Reason: We would like you to get comfortable with the flow of the group and also to share some input on other members' songs before
submitting your own.
Due to recent actions we ask that members not share accounts. It ultimately makes it appear as if you're spamming the boards. Plus if you are going to take the time to post on someone else s account then why not sign up.
We realize that it can get a little confusing in regards to WHERE to post WHAT in this forum, yet we want to gently lead you to the correct area to post your song/lyric, a link to your website to share your music, or conversational threads. The Mod Squad invites any questions. Our emails are below.
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR POSTING MUSIC AND LYRICS:
The maximum number of “Song Section” is 2 per week. We feel it is hard to work on anymore than 2 per week and it also would be unfair to the group to have someone join
and send in 5 songs the 1st day or in a week and ask
everyone to assist you only.
We ask that you critique 2 songs before you post the first song you send in for critique - then always balance each song you post for critique with two critiques of others music. This assures that everyone will have a good responses to their work. It is everyone's job to critique. This is how we all will benefit, grow and develop here at writingsongs.
Also as we encourage people to post music with audio. We still have to see the lyrics to know if they are appropriate or not. So you need to post the lyrics in the thread. Regardless if they are posted on the site you are linking everyone to. We are fairly open minded I hope to say.
Please understand that we favor "honest critiques."
People will submit comments that you may not like. They are not attacking you, they are trying to help you. When you critique we also ask that you say what you feel about the song and do not feel the need to "sugarcoat" your comments. (However, it is important to remember that this is a Christian site, a Christian organization, and even unfavorable comments should always be made with love and respect.)It is always a good practice to say you are expressing YOUR OWN OPINION, It is always good to read a post that says that it was critiqued with love and or respect. Just remember that you cannot see the face of those your critique or receive a critique from. The best practice is to remember that we are all here to help and encourage one another from the beginner to the advanced...
Please remember that there is no paid staff in the forum. Each comment and critique comes from someone volunteering to give up their own time to help with a song or lyric. There is never any expectation that a song may receive a critique. There could be a variety of reasons a song will get no or few comments or critiques. It could be a lull in activity on the board, no one has any comment about the song or you may need to step up your own involvement in our on-line community. Do not lose heart though; the next song posted may receive many more comments. The best way to get critiques is to give them – it is also one of the best ways to improve your own writing.
Posts not adhering to the topics/sections listed in the forum discouraged. Anyone who repeatedly posts off-topic messages will be asked to stop.
Since there is some of the members on here that are considered minors. We ask everyone to censor your cuss words. If the filters do not pick it up put *** in place of the letters. This way you can still post your work. And the parents of the younger members are happy. I'll put more rules up as situations that need to be addressed.
Posts not adhering to the topics/sections of the forum which are selling or promoting something are expressly forbidden, unless they are from a list sponsor. It is recognized that active list members may wish occasionally to promote some business or work they are
involved in, which may be off-topic. This is permitted as long as it is only occasional.
Some of us have published music, some have written music we have used in our own churches and some are beginners. We are all here to help one another and learn.
